Day 29: Mark 11:27-31

This challenge begins a long list of people trying to trap Jesus into saying something that the Pharisees could use to arrest Jesus. The religious leaders were looking for any reason they could to bring Jesus before the Sanhedrin and level charges against him.

Jesus outsmarts them though. He turns their question back around on them and tries to force them into passing judgment on John the Baptist. You see, Jesus had nothing left to prove at this point. The many miraculous signs that he had done over the last few years should have been enough to prove that he really did come from God, but the religious elite of his day could not accept that.

Why? Because the Gospel that he was preaching, the Kingdom of God that he talked about, was so different from what they had come to expect. They had a certain picture of the way things ought to happen when the Messiah showed up, and Jesus was completely upending that image.

How many times do we miss what God is trying to do in our lives because it doesn’t look the way we expected it to look? How many people still dismiss Jesus not because of factual evidence, but because they don’t want to believe that he was exactly who he said he was? Jesus has nothing left to prove, but he does demand that you make a decision about him. Will you believe he is who he claims to be, or will you reject him? That decision is yours alone.
