Day 31: Mark 12:18-27
The next group that tried to challenge Jesus were the Sadducees, those that didn’t believe in the resurrection of the dead. That’s why they were sad, you see(I can hear my kids groaning as I write this). They came up with this elaborate story that was supposed to prove to Jesus that there couldn’t possibly be a resurrection of the dead because of how complicated relationships could be.
Jesus, of course, gives them an answer that completely shuts them down and makes them walk off with their proverbial tails between their legs. The very first thing he says is what gets me though, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.”
How many of our problems today could be solved if we truly knew Scripture and knew the power of God? 2 Timothy 3:16-17 - “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” How can we allow the Word of God to do what it is supposed to do in our lives if we don’t know it? If the only time we ever hear or see Scripture is on Sunday mornings we are failing in our walk with Christ. How do you know the power of God? You see it when you read the Bible. Open his Word, study it, get to know it, and your life will be changed.
